With the advancement of technology and in today’s New Media day of age with the web being such a tremendous place to go get any sort of information has brought up many concerns for users. With platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc, people are worried about how much control they have and the privacy of their information on the web. Privacy is one of the biggest concern as of lately, because everyone info hold s so much power that anyone at any moment can get hold of it without one knowing. Theft of personal information not only on social sites, but can also happen while shopping online or in stores. According to the CNET article, “Target works on Security Heavy Credit Cards, after Breach”, “the security breach that hit Target was first identified in December and resulted in the theft of names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and debit and credit card data.” Which at resulted in customers losing a lot of money and lost of their confidential data. This shows how our privacy and confidential data can be taken away at any moment if we are not careful with what we put out and use. As for social media, there was a recent incident with facebook, giving away our information to companies, which goes to show you our information are not very private. So you must becareful with what you put online and share, because when we think that we have some sort of confidentiality with our accounts, we really don’t have any control in how our information is used. Although there is a option to make your account private and secure, sometimes its really not.
